TDK offers special types of Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitor (MLCC) products with redundancy in design in order to avoid short-circuit failures and improve the reliability of equipment. When a crack occurs on the element of an MLCC due to PCB depaneling, screw fastening, or shock from vibration or a drop, it may lead to a short-circuit failure. Among failure modes, there are open-circuit failures and short-circuit failures. Short-circuit failures can even cause problems such as abnormal heat generation, smoking, or ignition of the MLCC.
