A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) can be thought of as a hybrid mix of a brushless DC motor (with respect to the rotor) and an AC induction motor (with respect to stator structure.) PMSMs offer high efficiency, a high power factor, a high torque-to-weight ratio, faster response times, rugged composition, are fairly easy to control and easy to maintain.
